S.T.A.R.S. = Service

The Sheriff's Team of Active Residents in Service are seen in their patrol cars, on the scene assisting police, and at community events.  After an application process, 3 weeks study in academy, and a 6 week field training they may become active members of this organization, and begin serving 4 days a week.   S.T.A.R.S. has organizations in Oroville, Chico and Magalia (where their dispatch center is located).  They provide a police presence and are a source of assistance to people in Butte County. Their radio equipped cars keep them in contact with the police.  One of their major services, when informed in advance,  involves doing vacation checks on properties.
